Few buildings in the real world remain as they were at their birth. Once inhabitants arrive, doors become worn, windows amended, freshly painted facades begin to bear the marks of life. Materials are broken over time, colours fade, ways in and out are blocked and construction falls. Here are facades from around the world over many years, some forgotten and neglected, all bearing a door in and a window out.

Many of these pictures featured in the gallery shows 'Doors and Windows' and 'Rooftop Collective' in 2011, and were also collected into a book.
